Small Arms in the papers

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Peet On PI Front PageWe’ve been moving very slowly here after launching Small Arms. Vacations & holidays have slowed our normal busybody schedules to a snail’s pace. Small Arms has been an amazing success and we were happy to take some time off to watch it go.

In the meantime, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer has profiled Gastronaut and Small Arms. This includes a photo of Don and I, sitting in front of the Gastronaut family TV. The paper also had an image of Lord Peet (Small Arms’ resident knight wanna-be) on the front page mingling with Rachael Ray. Note to the Food Network: Lord Peet is available for the next “Throwdown with Bobby Flay.”

The paper came out on December 18th. The article can be found online at this link: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/videogames/296238_software18.html

We were also mentioned in a Hollywood Reporter article about Xbox 360 Achievements. Click here for that article.

Small Arms Site Launches

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

After finishing the game, we set about working on the new Small Arms website. This is now complete and the results can be seen at:

www.smallarmsgame.com

It has lots of cool features that give you a good look at the characters and weapons of the game fully animated. The site was made for us by the dynamic Donnie Steele, whose name we will license for an upcoming action game.

The guys at gamertagradio.com did a nice video review of Small Arms. It has a good amount of gameplay footage spliced in, as well as a sexy closeup of CyberAthelete I know you’ve all been waiting for.

Small Arms Q&A on FiringSquad.com

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

I did another Q&A this week for FiringSquad.com.

This site used to be all the rage when I was a semi-pro Quake player back in the day. Glad to see it’s still around, even if Thresh’s name is no longer in the title.

Small Arms “Viral” Achievement detailed on MTV.com

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Jake had a little chat with MTV about our super secret (until now) viral achievment.

“In the next few months, Jacob Van Wingen — the 27-year-old director and programmer of the late summer/ early fall Xbox Live Arcade fighting game “Small Arms” — hopes people will strive for an Achievement he calls “Six Degrees of ‘Small Arms.’ ” It’s an Achievement that will start with the four people at his small game development company, Gastronaut Studios, and spread to anyone who plays them online. It will continue to be contagious for anyone who has it, and (Van)Wingen hopes they will be able to program it in such a way that those who catch it will be able to tell how many degrees they are separated from the first players at Gastronaut.”

Post E3

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

We’re all back in town after E3. Many thanks to all the people who helped get Small Arms ready to show! We had a blast, and loved watching people play the game (We were the creepy guys lurking behind you.)

I did a really crappy job of taking pictures, but there are a few gems here:
